This method which is also termed as strip harvesting served as the major hair transplant method prior to the rapid developments accomplished in the Follicular Unit Extraction – FUE Method
FUT method differs from the FUE method in the process of hair removal from the donor site (2). The rest of the stages (1,3,4) are the same as the FUE method. In other words, the main difference between the two methods is the way the hair grafts are removed
A strip of scalp is removed from the donor site in between the ears. The crucial point of the process is the accurate determination of the flap size, which should not exceed 1 cm in the ear zone and 1,5 cm at the posterior scalp in width and will have the length to correspond to the number of grafts planned. The flap whose size is determined according to the number of grafts required is then removed as a strip of scalp from the donor site.
After removal of the flap, the open wound in the donor site is sutured back. The depth of the scar that may remain after suturing is effected by the elasticity and softness of the skin under the hair, and the type of stitching material and the suturing technique. We have preferred 4/0 nonabsorbable prolene surgical suture and 4/0 absorbable polyglycolic acid based pegalak surgical suture to stitch for the transplantation we have performed until so far.
The scar that may when healing is complete after FUT transplantation
We have implemented the “Tricophytic Closure” technique declared in the ISHRS Congress after 2006 synchronously with the world and have detected that the suturing scars which remain after the treatment are minimized when Tricophytic Closure is employed.
We consider this stage as one of the most important steps in the FUT method. For how large the flap you remove may be or how many microchannels you develop, sufficient hair will grow on the recipient site only when the number of follicles obtained vivid are maximized in number.
One of the crucial principles to obtain solid follicular units is performing the dissection of the grafts into the follicular units under the stereo microscopes.

Implantation of grafts is the final step of hair transplantation or restoration, In which Doctor/Surgeon insert the divided hair grafts in to the slits, the important part is to reduce the damage rate while implantation which can be done by holding the graft correctly. Experienced surgeon always hold the graft by the shaft not by the root or hair bulb.
